Letter: Let's be neighbors helping neighbors

By Tim Bickett, Worthington Workcamp 2019 Coordinator

I am continually amazed and in awe of the generosity of those in our community and the Midwest in general. People go out of their way to help those in need and even forgo their own needs to be the first to offer a “hand up.”

Next July 7-13, Worthington is partnering with Group Mission Trips (www.groupmissiontrips.com) to be one of 28 Workcamp sites across the nation. We need your help in two ways. First, we need 60 homeowners with in 30-minute drive of the Worthington High School (our lodging partner) who are in need of free home repair like painting (interior and exterior), accessibilty/handicap ramps, porch or step repair and minor siding or roofing repair to name a few.

These homeowners are not just receiving needed repairs that they cannot complete themselves because of a physical or financial barrier; they are giving. They are giving the more than 400 youths and their adult chaperones which have already committed to working in our community an opportunity to serve that will have a huge positive lifelong impact on these individuals.

If you or your neighbor or family member is in need of free home repair, the application is available on our Facebook page, Worthington Work Camp 2019, at Love INC, the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce office and American Lutheran Church. Or, email us at worthingtonworkcamp2019@gmail.com and we will send you one. Applications will be accepted until Nov. 15.

Secondly, if you are in the position to financially support this needed work in our community, funds can be mailed to or dropped off at the American Lutheran Church, 915 Winifred St. Worthington. With checks, write Worthington Workcamp 2019 in the memo line. Any questions please email us at the address above or call the church office at 376-5264.

Thank you for your support.
