APPLETON, Minn. — Multiple locations of Christensen Farms operations, accused of hiring illegal laborers, were among work sites in Minnesota and Nebraska raided by federal immigration agents Wednesday, Aug. 8. The raids were part of a multi-state investigation into multiple agricultural-related businesses in the two states, according to a Homeland Security Investigations news release.
HANLEY FALLS, Minn. — Fire departments from 10 communities responded to a fire early Friday, March 30, at the Farmers Cooperative Elevator in Hanley Falls. The fire was located at the coop's northern location on the west edge of town. The Yellow Medicine County Sheriff's Office received a fire call from a BNSF Railway crew at about 4:30 a.m. Friday. During the fire, the winds were blowing large embers into the town. Fire crews spent time driving around town monitoring the situation and assisting in some evacuations.
HECTOR, Minn. — A Cohasset man was found dead Thursday morning, Dec. 14, inside an upside-down vehicle frozen in the ice at the bottom of a county drainage ditch by a farm field near Hector. The deceased man was identified as Richard C. Bain, Jr., 48, of Cohasset. The Renville County Sheriff's Office received a report at 10:32 a.m. Thursday about a vehicle lying on its roof at the bottom of Judicial Ditch 15, which is located about a quarter mile east of Hector. The area where the vehicle had entered the ditch was along a farm field north of U.S.
