Veterans Day observances scheduled across region

WORTHINGTON: The Nobles County Council of Veterans will host a Veterans Supper on Sunday with a 5:30 p.m. social hour and roast beef dinner to follow at the American Legion Hall, Brewster. Nobles County Veterans Service Officer Bill Brockberg is the guest speaker. Tickets will be available at the door. All are welcome.

Prairie Elementary will honor veterans and those currently serving in the Armed Forces on Friday. A free breakfast for veterans and their spouse or guest will begin at 7:30 a.m. in the gymnasium, followed by a short program at 7:45 a.m. with student essays and patriotic songs. Prairie Elementary’s K-Kids will give building tours to the veterans following the program to show them student work created in their honor.

The Worthington Middle School Veterans Day Program will begin at 8 a.m. Thursday in the Middle School gymnasium. The WMS Student Council plans the program, which will include performances by eighth-grade choir students, the WMS Orchestra and the WMS Speech Team, among others. A breakfast will be served to veterans following the program.

Worthington High School will present its Veterans Day program at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the WHS gymnasium. There will be reflection on what it means to be a soldier and the sacrifices made by military men and women. Student speakers will present a show of thanks for service to our country. There will be performances by Trojan Express, WHS Orchestra and “Spirit of Worthington” Trojan Marching Band.

ADRIAN: Adrian High School will host a Veterans Day program at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the school gym. Organized by Adrian National Honor Society students, the program will include special music from the Adrian music department, color guards of area veterans groups, and readings and presentations to honor veterans. Area veterans and their spouses are invited to a free breakfast prior to Veterans Day ceremonies at Adrian High School, with serving from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. in the concession area on the west side of the high school gym. BREWSTER: The Brewster Elementary School will host a Veterans Day program at 9 a.m. Monday in the Brewster gym. The program will include music by students in kindergarten through eighth grade.

EDGERTON: Edgerton Public School will host a Veterans Day program at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the school, 423 First Ave. W.

ELLSWORTH: Ellsworth Public School will host a Veterans Day program at 10 a.m. Monday in the school gym. Guest speaker is Curt Hendel, of the Adrian American Legion. Special music will be provided by the Ellsworth High School band.

FULDA: A Veterans Day program featuring musical performances by Fulda band and choir choir students will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday in the gymnasium at Fulda High School, 410 N. College Ave.

GEORGE, Iowa: A Veterans Day program will begin at 10 a.m. Monday in the auditorium at George-Little Rock High School, 500 E. Indiana Ave., George.

HARDWICK: The Hardwick American Legion will host a Veterans  Day Banquet with a 6 p.m. social hour and 6:30 p.m. dinner Sunday at the Hardwick Legion Hall. Guest speaker is Lt. Thomas Nelson of the National Guard and Boys State Commander from Jackson. Special patriotic music by Maddie Oye. Open to the public.

JACKSON: Jackson County Central Middle School and Pleasantview Elementary will host a Veterans Day program at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the Middle School Auditorium.

Jackson County Central High School will host a Veterans Day program at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the High School Auditorium.

JEFFERS: The American Legion Post 401 will host a Veterans Day luncheon and program Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at the Jeffers Community Center.

LAKEFIELD: Riverside Elementary will host a Veterans Day Program at 1 p.m. Monday at the school’s main gymnasium in Lakefield.

LUVERNE: The Herreid Military Museum, 213 E. Luverne St., will host a Veterans Tribute and Reception from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

The Minnesota Veterans Home, 1300 N. Kniss Ave., will host a Veterans Day program at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the dining room. Guest speaker is Second District American Legion Commander Cindy Brunk.

A Veterans Day program will begin at 2 p.m. Monday in the Luverne High School gym, 709 N. Kniss Ave.

MOUNTAIN LAKE: A Veterans Day program will take place at 8:15 a.m. Monday in the auditorium at Mountain Lake Public School, 450 12th St.

OKABENA: Heron Lake Okabena Schools will host a joint Veterans Day program for Heron Lake and Okabena communities at 2 p.m. Monday at the HL-O High School, Okabena. Guest speaker is Jeff Gay, Jackson County veterans service officer. Music by HLO Choir and Band.

PIPESTONE: Pipestone Area Schools will host a Veterans Day program at 8:30 a.m. Thursday for the high school and 10 a.m. for the middle school in the auditorium, 1401 Seventh St. S.W., Pipestone.

American Legion Post #6 will host its annual bone-in chop supper from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Legion, 117 S. Hiawatha Ave., Pipestone. On the menu are bone-in chops, baked potato, vegetable, dinner roll and dessert.

ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa: A program to celebrate Veterans Day will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Central Lyon High School, 1010 S. Greene St., Rock Rapids.

SHELDON, Iowa: Sheldon Middle School, 310 23rd Ave., will host a Veterans Day program at 8:30 a.m. Monday.

Sheldon High School, 1700 E. Fourth St., will host a Veterans Day program at 9:40 a.m. Monday.

East Elementary School, 501 Normal College Ave., will host a Veterans Day program at 2:15 p.m. Monday.

Sheldon Christian School. 1425 E. Ninth St., will host a Veterans Day program at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

SIBLEY, Iowa: A Veterans day observance will take place at 10 a.m. Monday in the Sibley-Ocheyedan High School gymnasium.

SLAYTON: Murray County Central will host a Veterans Day program at 2 p.m. Monday in the central gymnasium of the high school, 2420 28th St., Slayton.

WALNUT GROVE: The Westbrook/Walnut Grove Elementary School in Walnut Grove will host a Veterans Day program at 2 p.m. Monday.

WESTBROOK: The Westbrook/Walnut Grove High School will host a 10 a.m. Monday Veterans Day Program with musical performances and local guest speaker Steve Kjorness.

WILMONT: The Wilmont VFW will host its Veterans Day observance with a potluck meal. Social begins at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, with the meal at 6 p.m. and a short program to follow. Everyone is welcome.

WINDOM: The Windom American Legion Post 206 will host its annual Veterans Day program at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the Windom Area High School gymnasium. Guest speaker is Keith Carey, who served two tours of duty in Vietnam from 1966-1968 and later worked for the city of Westbrook, Toro Co. in Windom and as pastor of the Westbrook Presbyterian Church. Also participating are the Windom Area High School Band, Mass Elementary Choir and Mass Choir.
